Dell to Come Up With Smartphone in India

Dell has opened its box of announcements for the introduction of Smartphones intothe market.

This announcement was made by Steve Felice, President of Dell’s consumer that Smartphones will hit the Indian market later this year. This was stated in a post-earnings press conference called by the company with Asian journalists on Friday.

The conference also revealed that Dell will be introducing more smartphone models in China as well adding more to the list initiated earlier this year.

According to some figures gathered by research firm IDC India, the country has witnessed far more mobile phone purchase as compared to the PC. The sales of mobile phones surpassed the personal computers as the rate was 80 new mobile phones against one PC.

There is a probability that with the launch of commercial third-generation bandwidth services by September, the usage of data services on smartphones will also rise. Smartphone is a familiar thing crowned with being the world’s fastest growing and second-largest mobile phone market.

Considering the number of units sold in 2009, currently Nokia is leading the shares with 54.1%, second in the row is Samsung with a 9.7% and then LG with 6.4%.

But in India, Smartphones will have to compete of cheap Indian and Chinese copies of Nokia, Blackberry and iPhone, and they pose a serious threat to the plans of smartphones makers like Dell, H-P and Apple.

Facebook to simplify privacy settings

Responding to complaints, the social networking site plans to make it easier for users to opt out of some, though not all, data-sharing features.

Facing growing protests over its handling of users' personal information, Facebook plans to make changes to the privacy settings available on the world's largest social networking website. But the steps, to be unveiled as early as next week, may not go as far as critics would like.

Lawmakers, regulators, privacy watchdogs and some Facebook users have unleashed a storm of criticism of the Internet company since it launched a program that shares user data with three third-party websites. A number of U.S. senators have called on Facebook to allow users to opt out of that program, which Facebook calls instant personalization.

The 6-year-old private company also has been assailed for technical glitches and loopholes that have exposed some personal data to third parties.

Facebook said Friday that it would simplify its privacy choices in response to complaints that the settings were confusing to navigate. It's expected that Facebook will offer users an easier way to dictate whether their information is shared with their friends only, with a broader group or with everyone.

But the company doesn't intend to end the instant personalization program, two people familiar with the plan said. They also said Facebook didn't plan to get explicit consent from its nearly 500 million users before adding new features.

For this purpose, the entity has launched a new site ’0.facebook.com’ that includes all key features of Facebook but is optimised for speed.

”... people can access 0.facebook.com without any data charges. Using 0.facebook.com is completely free. People will only pay for data charges when they view photos or when they leave 0.facebook.com to browse other mobile sites,” he added.

According to the blog, over 100 million people are actively using Facebook from their mobile devices.

How to Extract Text from Images Online & PDF Files

Recently i had received a report from a company which had stats on the best laptops which was sent by a media company and while reading the report i thought to share a part of the stats with all my blog reader, but well it was not possible because it was a JPEG Image which the report was saved as and there was no option to copy any part of this. Now in order to extract all the text content from the Image i had to use a Online Tool called as Free OCR also means Optical Character Recognition which is a technology used to mechanically or electronically translate images into machine editable text which means into a kind of text which you can use it easily.

To make you understand this technology in easy format, lets take a example. Whenever you scan some important document, you will find that its available to you to be saved as a Image file and you cannot select any other format in this case, because the scanner would take a photographic screenshot of document and present it to you. Now the OCR Readers would perform the reverse job and offer you a text format of the Image files. In order to get this task done you need to visit the website and browse the Image file on your local computer and click on the send file button, which would upload the file to the free-ocr.com website server where its being converted and then the results are shown on the same window at the end.

There are many chances that the text format is lost, because in the Image you would find the information stored in perfect tables and good layouts, but at the end you can find garbled text, which you need to format manually and still this is a good service because atleast you don’t have to manually type down all the text content from the Image. You just have to take the pieces of text which was downloaded and format it correctly for your usage.

Nokia users will get unlimited music download for a year

Nokia has joined the battle with telecom service providers for a share of the online music pie. Nokia, the world's largest mobile phone maker, on Thursday said its customers in India will be able to download unlimited music on their handsets or personal computers.

The catch is that only those customers who buy a smartphone where this facility is enabled will get 12 months of unlimited free music downloads.

"The 5-series and X-series of handsets will offer 12 months of unlimited music downloads," Nokia’s Vice President & Managing Director for India D Shivakumar said. The price range of these handsets range from Rs 6,000—Rs 18,000, he added.

But, existing customers of Nokia who already use handsets from these series cannot avail this facility. "You have to buy a new mobile phone to get unlimited music downloads," Mr Shivkumar said. He added that going forward, Nokia would make this service available on other handset series too.

Nokia customers can download music from the Ovi Music Unlimited service that has been launched in India today. Nokia executives also said the company was yet to take a call if this service would be charged after the 12-month period expires.

Analysts say the handset maker will find it tough to come up with a business model to charge customers for music after the 12-month period, especially in a market which is used to the concept of receiving and exchanging pirated music for free. Nokia will also have to compete with telecom service providers such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar and Reliance Communications, who offer music downloads to their customers for rates as low as Rs 2–5 per track. However, industry executives say most music on mobile phones in India is consumed through data cards where customers download, store and exchange tracks for free.

The Ovi Music Unlimited service has four million tracks and off these, one million numbers are Indian music, Mr Shivakumar explained. Our nearest competitor in India offers about 100,000 tracks, he added.

Nokia has tied up global music labels including Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and EMI Music for the service. It has also partnered with Indian Music Industry (IMI) to offer a consortium of more than 150 domestic music labels like Hungama, Yash Raj, Tseries, Eros and SIMCA (South Indian Music Companies Association). The firm said it had done an in-depth research with Indian consumers on how they would like to consume music on their mobile phones and used the findings to create a ‘Made for India’ music service proposition.

Shanghai World Expo park opens to public

The Shanghai World Expo formally opened its door to the highly avid public Saturday morning after years of planning and preparation.

Visitors, from home and abroad, have thronged to the gates of the Expo park, receiving security checks in long queues. More than 350,000 tickets have been sold or distributed for the opening day, organizers said.

Ge Ning, an executive of a sci-tech company in neighboring Jiangsu Province, was among the first to enter the park.

"I'm here to see new inventions concerning science, technology, environmental protection, and energy," he said. The United States Pavilion and the exotic pavilions of African countries are also on his list.

"I might only be able to visit five pavilions today," he said, wowing the crowds around him.

Top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin and International Exhibitions Bureau President Jean-Pierre Lafon activated the opening device together at a commencement ceremony.

The Expo, carrying a theme of "Better City, Better Life", reflects the crystallization of wisdom about urban construction and vision of a better future life, Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said while addressing the ceremony.

In his speech, Jia expressed gratitude to all participants, the BIE and those who toiled for the preparation for the grand event.

In the Expo, visitors could enjoy pavilions with original design, explore scientific and technological progress, enjoy various cultural events, and take part in symposiums to fully experience the mankind's pursue for development of civilization, he said.

BIE Secretary Teneral Vicente Gonzalea Loscertales said the Shanghai World Expo would be "the most splendid and unforgettable" and would help the world better understand the present, have a glimpse into the future and strengthen cooperation between countries and organizations.

The Expo is "a celebration of human achievements with the goal of inspiring present and future generations to pursue not only the ideals, but also the actions for 'Better City, Better Life'," Loscertales said.

The six-month Expo will "not only educate, entertain and fascinate visitors, but will spark the energies to build the cities of the future on some of its foundations," he said.

Covering an area of 5.28 square kilometers along both sides of the Huangpu River, a tributary of the Yangtze River, the Expo is expected to attract 70 million visitors from home and abroad.

Japanese robot mimics movements

Mahru the robot can dance and wave and do just about anything you can do, while you're doing it. The latest version of this humanoid-looking robot developed by Korea Institute of Science and Technology's (KISK) Cognitive Robotics Centre can mimic a person's movement in real-time, reports the sci-tech website IEEE Spectrum.

Dubbed Mahru, the robot's movements are fluid and clean. And how it performs them is evolving every day.

Previously, the robot had to learn how to perform new tasks via video. Now, a motion-capture suit allows the wearer's movements to be transferred directly to Mahru.

The motions can be recorded for later use, too.

The KISK Cognitive Robotics Center research focuses on designing robots that do chores for people, and they have made headlines before, as newer models become capable of ever more complex tasks.

Past versions of Mahru have performed chores like grocery shopping, or bringing food to tables.

"Attention is turning to the benefits offered by human friendly intelligent robots since the market for traditional industrial robots does not offer the growth potential it once had," reads the Center's website.

"The Center’s goal is to develop new intelligent agent technologies to provide human-friendly services for human beings by combining intelligence technologies and bio-mimetic sensing-and-control technologies with traditional robot technologies."

Apple launches 3G iPad, looks to maintain momentum

In the second stage of a two-part rollout,Apple Inc on Friday began selling the pricier, high-speed wireless version of the iPad in the United States, following the successful launch of the short-range Wi-Fi tablet earlier this month.

Although the event certainly lacked the buildup and excitement of the April 3 debut -- with the heartiest waiting in line overnight -- some Apple retail stores in big cities still saw decent-sized crowds ahead of the 5 p.m. launch.

At a store in downtown San Francisco, roughly 75 people stood in line 90 minutes before the 3G iPad went on sale.

Several people said they had waited for the more expensive version of Apple's tablet because they saw it as a potential replacement for their laptops, at least in certain situations.

"I'm going to take it everywhere with me, I already take my laptop everywhere, and it'll definitely replace my laptop in a lot of cases," said Long Nguyen, 22, who works in IT repair and was first in line.

The 3G model -- which is also Wi-Fi compatible -- starts at $629 and tops out at $829. The Wi-Fi-only iPad starts at $499.

The 9.7-inch touchscreen iPad is essentially a cross between a laptop and a smartphone. It is intended as a media consumption device, good for video, games, electronic books and magazines and Web browsing.

But some said they were hoping to also use it for work, mainly because of the device's thin-and-light profile.

"I travel a lot for work, and I have a lot of projects that are out in the field, so I think it will be useful for some of that," said Gary Riley, 36, an environmental engineer.

"I'm on the road all the time, and I think it will give me a nice choice, especially when I travel," said Bob Geib, a consultant. "It will complement my laptop."

AT&T is providing the wireless data plans for the iPad, charging $29.99 a month for unlimited access.

AT&T is also the exclusive U.S. carrier for Apple's iPhone, and has been subject to plenty of criticism over the quality of its network. It remains to be seen whether iPad users will encounter any problems with their service.

Apple sold 300,000 iPads on launch day April 3 and a half-million units the first week. Although the device won't reach international markets until late May, some analysts expect Apple to sell roughly 5 million or so this year.

The iPad rollout has been accompanied by a crush of media hype, but it has not been without its hiccups. The company delayed the international launch for a month for what it said was stronger-than-expected demand.

Analyst say the company has also had difficulty ramping production of a new product.

Shares of Cupertino, California-based Apple closed down 2.8 percent at $261.09 on the Nasdaq.

How to Build Your own RC Helicopter

Flying RC helicopter is really very exhilarating. Their versatility gives a RC pilot a complete access to the three-dimensional space in such a way that no other machines can! I have played RC helicopter for more than one year but still find that I have just learnt a few tricks that it can perform.

There are generally two micro-helicopters ( indoor ) in the RC market. I have already planned to buy one of them as they can fly inside the living room and even take off on ours hand. Unlike those operated by gas, these electric helicopters are very clean and give out no terrible noise at all. In one nightfall, I visited a web site, which is about how to make a hand made RC helicopter. I was totally impressed and started designing my own helicopter. Here is my helicopter:

The plan of the helicopter had finally been completed. It is not very well drew. The current plan available is only for the fixed pitch design.

If you are a fan of RC helicopters and would like to build your own then check out the site linked below. It details the steps that one guy took to build his own helicopter. No doubt, you need to have some good skills to create one of these indoor beauties and no doubt if you are not skilled then you best dish out 30 quid and buy one already made.

What makes these small helicopters great is that they are not petrol engine helicopters. They are indoor RC (battery powered) helicopters. This means you can fly this around your living room and hopefully not break any of your mothers breakables.

Good luck building and do not hesitate to link to pics of your own creations should you decide to make your own.

Click this link for full step-by-step procedure to make your own helicopter.

Intex launches dual sim QWERTY music phone for just Rs. 2200

Yesterday, my friend told me that he is looking for a cheap and best mobile. So I told suggested him to buy Nokia 2730 Classic. This Nokia handset is a lowest priced 3G enabled phone. But why i am telling you this now, you can read it here.

INTEX Technologies launched a new Dual Sim (GSM+GSM) QWERTY mobile phone in the Indian market priced at Rs 2,200.

The handset also supports GPRS and WAP and sports a 1.8 screen. It has chatting and texting options as well. It supports 11 hours talk time and up to 336 hours stand-by. A in-built Black List feature allows users to block 10 callers of choice.

Google receives requests from IPL for removing content

Internet major Google has said it has received four content censorship requests this month from the Indian Premier League, the administrative body of the Twenty20 cricket tournament.

A total of five complaints were received in 2010 about certain websites carrying "illegal retransmission of the authorised feed, copyrighted content for which IPL is the owner", according to Google.

Out of the five, four complaints were made this month while one was made in March.

Interestingly, Google recently signed an agreement with IPL, wherein rights for live web coverage of matches have been given to YouTube, part of the internet major.

Google on Tuesday had named India at the third place among a list of nations from which it received maximum requests for censoring information.

The list, which was based on requests for removal of information made to Google between July 1 and December 31, 2009.

The complaints from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which owns IPL, have been listed on the website 'chillingeffects.org', a project run by the US-based Berkman Center for Internet and Society, that tracks online restrictions on speech.

"Whenever we do remove content, we display a message for our users that X number of results have been removed to comply with local law and we also report those removals to chillingeffects.org," Google said in a blog post on Monday.

Last year, the BCCI had registered three complaints related to IPL, with Google.

The cash-rich IPL is now mired in controversy following allegations by IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi that Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor influenced the auction of an IPL franchise. Tharoor has since resigned saying he didn't want to be an embarrassment to the government, although he claimed doing no wrong.

Google said that it got maximum requests to censor information from Brazil (291), followed by Germany (188) and India (142).

Removal requests ask for removal of content from Google search results or from another Google product, including YouTube, Google had said in a statement.

"For Brazil and India, requests for content removal are high relative to other countries in part because of the popularity of our social networking website, orkut. The majority of the Brazilian and Indian requests for removal of content from orkut relate to alleged impersonation or defamation," the statement noted.

Facebook shut its Lite site after just seven months

Facebook has shut down its Lite site aimed at users with slow or poor internet connections.

The stripped down version of the original ran for around seven months.

Facebook posted a note on its own fan page thanking those who used Lite, adding that it had "learned a lot from the test of a slimmed-down site".

"I think a lot of the Facebook experience was left out of Lite, especially the monetisable parts," said Ray Valdes of Gartner Research.

"The other part of this decision is probably because they have improved the performance sufficiently with the main part of Facebook and made things run better that they didn't need this back-up approach to cover a situation of low performance," Mr Valdes told BBC News.

The technology blog ReadWriteWeb.com had described the Lite site as a "Twitter-like experience" of the popular microblogging service because it offered a smaller number of features than the fully-fledged site.

The options on Facebook Lite were limited to letting users write on their wall, post photos and videos, view events and browse other people's profiles. There were no applications or special boxes.

"In some ways the Lite version was like using ad block on their own site - it stripped the site down to the very basics," said Mike Melanson of ReadWriteWeb.

The change was announced on Facebook's own profile page and offered few details as to why the service has been closed down.

"It would seem not enough people were using it but then there was not a lot of awareness about the product. Tears will not be shed over the loss of Facebook Lite," Nick O'Neil of AllFacebook.com told BBC News.

A number of commentators on the social media blog Mashable.com said that they used it because it was not blocked at their office while some said they thought it "would have been a nice support for low bandwidth nations".

    Website Creation Tutorial for Beginners

Want to learn the ABC's of creating a website? Congrats! You just stumbled upon the right place.

There's a lot of information on this site and if you're a beginner, it can be overwhelming. I created this quick guide just to give you an idea of what's involved with creating a website.

I encourage you to read it through once without clicking on any of the links just so you can understand the big picture. Then after you've absorbed the info, go back and click the links for more info.

Need Ideas? Having Trouble with Topic Choice?

While it's often tempting to choose topics where you've seen others have success, it's not always best to follow the leader.
Read about the importance of topic choice here.

What You Need to Build a Website

    1) Domain Name
The domain name creates the address of your site.  So, mywebsite.com would be an example of a domain name.
Domain names are paid for yearly and you can register them here.
    Looking for a FREE site?
I never endorse free webhosts.  They are too unstable, you never really own your site and you do not receive a true domain name.  Instead your address will be something like http://freesite.yourdomain.com.  In some cases, the domain may be even longer.
Read about my free website experience.
    2) Web Host
A website cannot exist without a web host.  This is the company that houses your files and provides the environment for you to create and save pages to the Internet.
Web hosts are usually paid for monthly (some are yearly).
Learn the importance of choosing the right website host. Very important page!
    3) Web Building Software (Optional)
Some web hosts provide website building tools so you do not need any additional software.  It's important you find out about this before you sign up with any host.Dreamweaver
CoffeeCup & Dreamweaver are popular web editing software programs that people use to create and maintain their sites.
I used Dreamweaver to create this site.
If you don't use any software, then you will need to learn how to code HTML from scratch.  All you do is open a text editor (Notepad or BBEdit for example) and then write the HTML that will create your page. It's pretty easy to learn.
Then you save the file as filename.html and save it to the Internet through your web host.
If you're not interested in learning HTML, I'd strongly recommend downloading some of my free HTML templates and buying a software program like CoffeeCup to edit and continue building your site.
Nvu and Komposer are two free editors you can download. As you might expect, they do have some limitations (free is not always best) but they can get the job done.

    Other Website Features

Want a gaming site?  Looking to create a message forum or chat room for your visitors to communicate?  Maybe you want an online guestbook where people can leave you messages on your site.
This is where it gets a little tricky but don't let it discourage you.  As the Internet matures, it's getting easier and easier to setup these kinds of things on a website.
Any kind of user interactive feature on a website requires some kind of script. A script is nothing but a file that contains a bunch of code that tells the browser how to behave.
Depending on what you want to create for your site, you'll need to go to your favorite search site (Google, for example) and search for the appropriate script (game script, message board script, etc.)  Some are free, some are not-so-free.
Say you want a message board/forum, you can go to http://www.phpbb.com and get a free message board script.  The trick is you have to install it yourself.
They do provide instructions and it really isn't that difficult but you'll need to get setup with your web host first.
Most web hosts will help you if you need some guidance and some even provide scripts to their customers for free.  Powweb and Website Palace both do.
Important!  Before you select a web host, make sure they support the kind of script and functionality you want to use.

    Making Money from Your Website

More and more people are coming to the web to either make a living or earn a part-time living from a website or blog.
It's certainly possible to make a full-time living online (like me), so if that's the route you're looking for, you've come to the right place.
In fact, I've created an article that talks about the various ways you can make money online.

    Outsource The Programming

If you can't seem to find a script or you don't want to learn how to install them you can go to RentaCoder.com and have a programmer do the work for you.  I love this site.
All you do is sign up for an account and post a job.  In a matter of minutes, programmers will begin bidding on your job with a price and you take the bid you want.
It's very safe because you pay the programmers by using PayPal.com and you don't release the money to them until you are satisfied with their work.  You can also check a coder's feedback/history before you select them.  I use them all the time!
You can even have them design your site if you wish.  Just purchase your domain and web hosting and then have one of the coders create a template for you.  They'll even install it for you.
That's website creation in a nutshell.  Now I will suggest you go to  website creation options page to further understand the importance of choosing the right kind of web host before you begin.

How to Monitor RAM Usage with Memory Cleaning Tool – Memory Cleaner?

Does your computer hang regularly when you are use multiple applications which include high resource using software’s like Mozilla Firefox, FTP Programs etc, and the only solution offered by your PC Seller is that you need to upgrade either your complete PC or else your RAM to the maximum compatible RAM.

Once you install this small application you will get a report with the total Memory Usage currently used and the Average and Maximum Usage. You will be able to clean the System Cache and Trim Processes. Once these settings were run i was able to decrease my memory usage from 55% to 45% which is a quite good result because while you are running numerous applications which are all useful, any small increase in free memory can help you easily handle your applications easily.

    Features of Memory Cleaner :

    1. Trims processes’ working set.
    2. Clears system cache.
    3. Monitors RAM usage and reports minimum, maximum and average (true average, not (min+max)/2).
    4. Reports Pagefile and virtual memory usage.

How to Fix Low Virtual Memory Error in Windows

Generally when you install/run very big applications like 3DMax, Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia Dreamweaver the windows based PC’s start giving you a error message saying – Your system is low on virtual memory. To ensure that Windows runs properly, increase the size of your virtual memory paging file.
Reasons for Low Virtual Memory :

Lets say you are running a application like Adobe Photoshop and while you are rendering a big sized image the pc starts using high amount of RAM and when there isn’t any adequate Random Access Memory on your PC which can handle processing of this data. This is when the PC starts using the Virtual Memory.

    What is Virtual Memory :
Temporary storage used by a computer to run programs that need more memory than it has. For example, programs could have access to 4 gigabytes of virtual memory on a computer’s hard drive, even if the computer has only 32 megabytes of RAM. The program data that does not currently fit in the computer’s memory is saved into paging files.

Finding Source of Low Virtual Memory Problem :
In order to quickly solve this problem you need to first find the source of it by checking out the Task Manager and analyzing all the programs to find which one of those is using the highest memory and closing them. This way you can close the programs which you are not actively using and those which use high amount of your memory.
Click on Windows Task Manager > View > Select Columns

Next Click on Select Columns option from the View Menu and Check on Virtual Memory Size Option

Next move on to the Task Manager’s main process tab and find all the programs which are using high amount of Virtual Memory and End their Process.

You can also try to uninstall and reinstall these high memory using programs because sometimes older versions of some software end up using high amount of RAM/Virtual RAM. I would recommend you to setup your Virtual Memory to 1.5 times of your physical memory for better performance.

How to Disable Automatic Updates Restart Computer Notification?

Whenever you go for a windows xp software update you will be notified with a message every 10minutes to either Restart the computer right away or later and this notifications keep popping up every 10minutes which can make you annoyed and would plan to restart but if you are in the middle of some important work then you should find a way to disable this notification and it would pop-up back after a 24 hours delay between which you can continue with your work without any disturbance.

Here is the way to stop these notifications.
    • Click Start >>> Run >>> type in gpedit.msc
    • Go to Local Computer Policy >>> Computer Configuration >>> Administrative Templates >>> Windows Components >>> Windows Update >>> Next
    • To disable auto restart: double click ‘No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Update installations’ and enable this function.
    • To delay the re-prompt by 24 hours: double click ‘Re-prompt for restart with scheduled installations’ and enable this function. Then set the timing to ‘1440 minutes’ – this is the maximum allowable time

Its generally recommended to restart your computer whenever you make a computer windows update because in most cases these are very important security updates and restarting would mean installation of these notifications. You are at risk if you dont restart your computer once the updates are downloaded and installed but at certain times you would need the above trick while you are in the middle of something where you cannot restart. This trick works on Windows XP Professional and not on Windows XP home version.
